Thought for the Day

January 7, 2009

Thought for the Day

Trust the past to God's mercy, the present to God's love, and the future to God's providence; then you can learn from your mistakes, grow in the present and dream of the future (St. Augustine, adapted)

God's Living Word

To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. 8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. 9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.(2 Corinthians 12:7-10, NIV)

For the next six weeks we are in the Christmas and Epiphany seasons, a time the church looks at the birth, visit of the Wise Men and early life of Jesus.  During this time I pray that each of us will take the time to think about what it really means that Jesus came to earth to show us God's mercy, love and Grace.  I pray that you will join with me to pray for God's direction and guidance that will transform our lives and bring His peace to our families and friends.

Today we are reminded that in every situation God is right there by our side to help us through the difficult moments of life and to give us strength when we are ready to give up.  The Apostle Paul became thankful for His weakness because it highlighted God's strength. Just as God knew Paul's future, so He knows yours. If you are worried about your future, perhaps this coming year, especially if you see limitations on your horizon, trust God. The same grace He gave Paul, He will give to you.

In one of his devotions Dr. David Jeremiah noted, "Your future is not bigger than God, nor are your limitations larger than His grace. Your faith in Him means your future is with Him."  With that being said, this is going to be a great day with Jesus.  So enjoy the journey, embrace the challenges and look for the opportunities that come your way.

Have a great day with Jesus and Be There!
